Although this page addressed many of the needs of our vision-impaired users when it was created, technology has advanced to the point that this kind of approach to accessible websites has become obsolete.

In addition, we acknowledge that offering a text-only version of the UUA.org home page without offering similar pages across our site is not particularly useful - again, this practice began in a prior incarnation of the website, when the home page was the only part of our website that relied on a page structure that was confusing for web readers (browsers for the visually impaired).

Our new website design, scheduled to debut in March 2007, will offer text-only and print-ready versions of all our pages. In addition, it will take advantage of new web technologies that allow us to organize information in a way that's useful to people with or without vision impairments.

In the meantime, the feedback we've received on our obsolete version of an accessible home page leads us to believe that it better serves our constituents to focus our energies on getting the new website up and running than it does to spend time maintaining a resource that's become rather less than useful.
