Class, Young Adults (18-35) and Social Change

About the Workshop:
Do you cringe when UU's speak of "knowing what it is like to be poor"
because they served food at a shelter once? Does the hair on the back of your neck stand
up when others say that the poor and minorities believe in God because they have no other
option? Have you ever wondered if the Unitarian cry "Onward and Upward" really
means upwardly mobile? As the UUA begins to address issues of class, many of us are
returning to our Universalist heritage for guidance. Are we only interested in outreach to
the poor in order to make them more like us, or are we ready to be transformed by what we
will learn about ourselves and the world around us as we spread the good-news of Liberal
Religion? Our Urban centers teem with Young Adults (18-35); young people working, trying
to sort it all out, some in school, a large percentage of whom grew up in a multi-cultural
environment and are involved in social change. Come and explore how the Young Adult
movement can lead us into a transformed future.
