REVIEWS
"'Garlic warms the heart,' writes Mary Wellemeyer, whose poems are less sweet than savory and salted with pungent observation. Admiring The Moon has a zest that will warm your insides and leave you hungry for more."
—Reverend Gary Kowalski, First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington, Vermont

"Wellemeyer nurtures and challenges the spirits of her readers with her wonderfully chosen words in Admire the Moon. These meditations take less than a minute to read but they will touch you in ways that will remain long after you ponder them. That is time well spent, I'd say."
—Stephen D. Edington, Minister, Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashua, New Hampshire

Admire the Moon
Meditations
by Mary Wellemeyer

Now comes a special time
of seeing into the depths of woods
discerning shapes of hills,
locations of boulders and cliffs,
pathways of streams.
Now comes a time for stone walls,
for cellar holes and ruined barns
to tell their tales of farms now gone,
of lives lived out in open fields
that are covered again in forest.

The underlying shape of Earth,
the hints of stories from the past—
these offer themselves to eye and mind,
now, between the falling of leaves

and the coming of snow.
Looking deep and seeing what was hidden
opens a secret doorway
for seeing deep within ourselves.

The newest UUA meditation manual for 2004.
