Where can I find comprehensive resources about disabilities?

The Accessibilities Office of Identity Based Ministries, UUA, offers comprehensive resources.

Are there guidelines for how to engage thoughtfully and considerately with people of differing abilities and disabilities?

"Disability Etiquette" (in html External Site, in pdf Acrobat Reader Required) offers basic ground rules for considerate, welcoming behavior towards individuals who have disabilities.

How can I talk to kids about disabilities?

Opportunities to discuss stigma and bias surrounding disability arise in the shared experience of everyday life. Dana Williams, a parenting columnist for Teaching Tolerance, describes an incident at a pizza restaurant where she and her son witness a disabled teenager mocked by other patrons, in her article, "Talk to Kids about Disability Bias" (in html External Site, in pdf Acrobat Reader Required). Permission for congregations to reprint this article, with credit to Dana William and Teaching Tolerance, has been granted.
