Every RE Library or UU congregation needs these two new resources!
By Rev. Pat Hoertdoerfer, Children, Family, and Intergenerational Programs Director
RE Department, UUA, Boston, MA

Heretic's Faith

Heretic's Faith is a book to share with parents, teachers, newcomers, and friends to help them enhance their faith vocabulary with UU meanings. For a greater understanding of our global UU faith, schedule an adult discussion series or a children's RE class using Maglipay Universalist.

Heretic's Faith by Fredric Muir helps us reclaim the religious words and infuse our UU vocabulary with fresh new meanings. Fifty-four worrisome words-God, evil, grace, sabbath, prayer, miracles, and sin to mention a few-are explored in clear, concise essays. The author gives religious liberals the tools we need for our free and responsible search for truth and meaning, as well as the common language we need to share our faith in the public square. In RE Committees and Newcomers Forums, Teacher Trainings and Intergenerational Gatherings, you can share the provocative insights of this book and engage others in conversations to strengthen their faith.

Maglipay Universalist
Maglipay Universalist: A History of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Philippines by Fredric Muir tells an inspiring and powerful story of the history and heritage, theology and challenges of our partners in faith on the other side of the world. This is a resource for all ages because it includes adult discussion questions and a nine-session elementary RE curriculum by Margaret Gooding and Rebecca Sienes. Our understanding of Toribio S. Quimada and his Universalist faith journey and leadership deepen our UU faith and broaden our religious identity. This resource invites us to celebrate our global faith as we learn from our colleagues in the Philippines and from the author's experiences.

Under the Wisdom Tree

Under the Wisdom Tree: A Storytelling Curriculum Emphasizing Values for Unitarian Universalists By Connie Dunn is a curriculum for teaching values, beliefs and cultural connections. It is designed for churches with small groups of multi-level, multi-aged children. It is meant to meet the needs of the youngest, as well as the oldest, child in your program. It is also designed with human resources in mind and requires only a few adults to run the program. Under the Wisdom Tree includes suggested warm-up stories or readings, stories, discussion topics and activities. Activities are given for two or three group levels to accommodate the preschoolers to high schoolers in your RE program.

Author Connie Dunn previously published Candle Stories and The Chalice Club for the UU audience. Other published works include Jessa Ying Comes from China (included in curriculum) and Miss Susan and Ivy at the Annual Dance Recital.

Under the Wisdom Tree includes 33 regular lessons, plus 12 holiday lessons (225 pages). Now Priced at a low $75 Introductory cost (regular cost is $125) from SageCreek Productions, plus shipping and handling of $5.
