Teacher Recognition Sunday Task Breakdown By Kristine Reid, DRE

TASK DRE COMMITTEE OTHER
1. APRIL - Preliminary meeting
  • contact volunteers who signed up on RE registration form to help with teacher recognition Sunday and/or recruit additional volunteers
  • meet with committee to review recognition components
  • determine number of teachers and youth advisors
  • delegate tasks
  • ask volunteers to save all receipts for reimbursement
  • set date of next meeting, if needed
     
2. Invitations for teachers and youth advisors
  • review previous year's card; update or change
  • hand out during Sunday services in May
  • mail remaining invitations two weeks in advance
     
3. Books purchased for RE library in honor of teams
  • review next year's curricula to determine books that will be needed (purchase these when appropriate)
  • choose and order or purchase books, one for each teaching team
  • create bookplates
  • print bookplates, glue in books
     
4. Potted plants/flowers
  • determine number of teachers and youth advisors
  • determine kind of potted plants/flowers
  • purchase plants, care for until Recognition Sunday§ divide six packs, prepare with plastic wrap, tissue paper, & ribbon
  • give out during recognition service
     
5. Thank you cards
  • review previous year's card; update or change
  • print cards, individual names on envelopes
  • give out during recognition service
     
6. Children's participation in showing appreciation
  • prepare thank you cards from each child to each teacher
  • review last year's cards & parent letters, edit as needed
  • color code cards for classes
  • include list of teacher's names with parent letter
  • distribute to children in RE mailbox by mid May
  • add "Teacher Recognition" file to RE mailbox to collect thank you cards from children
  • check RE mailbox one to two weeks before recognition Sunday and send cards that haven't been picked up by parents
     
Teen's participation in showing appreciation
  • contact teen to act as liaison
  • suggest teens write thank you cards or other
  • request teen attendance at recognition service
  • Activity packets for children
  • crayon packets or pipe cleaners for younger kids
  • obtain UU motifs for coloring pages (UU Kid's Book)
  • collect after service for reuse in future
  • refill packets with crayons and paper as needed
     
9. Order of recognition service
  • introduction or reading
  • (plan teacher's and youth advisor's participation (how and when recognized)
  • plan children's participation (group recitation of UU affirmation during chalice lighting, hand plants & envelopes to teachers, sing)
  • write out and review with minister
  • give to admin. assist. to print in order of service bulletin
     
10. Follow-up committee meeting
  • review events, contribute to event file, make notes of recommendations for future§ collect receipts from volunteers for reimbursement
     
11. Cost
  • determine total cost of teacher recognition and record in file
