SEXUALITY AND OUR FAITH SLIDE SET
Sarah Gibb, Sexuality Education Outreach Coordinator
UUA/UCBHM

The Sexuality and Our Faith Slide Set is designed for use with the Our Whole Lives and Sexuality and Our Faith curricula for grades 7-9. The set’s use is fully optional: the program is comprehensive and complete both with and without it.

If a congregation chooses to use the Slide Set in its sexuality education program

  • The parent orientation program outlined in the Slide Set package must be used.
  • Parents of participants must be offered the opportunity to preview the slide set before the Our Whole Lives course has begun. A parent may choose not to preview the slides if he or she wishes.
  • Parents of participants must sign copies of the alternate permission form contained in the Slide Set package.

Concerning the use of the Slide Set:

  • A congregation may choose to show each of the Slide Set’s three sections at the appropriate points in the curriculum or it may choose to show only one or two of the three sections.
  • The Unitarian Universalist Association advises against selectively editing out individual slides or sequences from any given section. The slides have been designed to answer adolescents’ questions in a way that is accurate, positive, safety promoting, and affirming of our religious values.
  • Individual participants can be excused from viewing all or some of the Slide Set if they or their parents choose this option.
  • A facilitator script is provided for use with the Slide Set.

Purchasing the Slide Set:

  • The Slide Set may only be purchased by Unitarian Universalist and United Church of Christ congregations after their leaders have participated in an Our Whole Lives training that includes instruction in the use of the slide set. The slides have been designed for use in the context of a UU or UCC religious community and may not be used outside of that context.
  • Slides may be ordered directly from the UUA Bookstore. The bookstore will only sell slides to congregations listed in a database of trained leaders. The cost of the Slide Set is $80.00 plus shipping and handling.
  • Slides may only be shipped to congregations, addressed to the attention of the congregation’s religious educator. They may not be sent to an individual’s home except under special circumstances approved by the Our Whole Lives Coordinator.

For questions and clarification regarding the use of the slide set, contact Rev. Cynthia Breen, Director of the UUA Department of Religious Education, or the Our Whole Lives Coordinator.
