OUR WHOLE LIVES RESOURCES
Starting up the Our Whole Lives curricula in your congregation? Looking for resources to assist you? Check out the information below!

  • Our Whole Lives: The introductions in each level of Our Whole Lives (grades K-1, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, Adult) contain information on introducing Our Whole Lives, the role of parents, selection of facilitators, training, program planning, parent orientation, and curriculum adaptations.
  • Sexuality and Our Faith: Each level of Sexuality and Our Faith includes a section called "Supporting Sexuality Education in Your Congregation." This is a document that the Sexuality Education Task Force created to assist congregations in planning for the program. It recommends a four-step process of building allies, creating an oversight committee, educating and inspiring the congregation, and institutionalizing the program.
  • The Advocacy Manual: The Advocacy Manual for Sexuality Education, Health and Justice: Resources for Communities of Faith is available for $12.00 from the UUA Bookstore. This book is designed to be a resource to those who are supporting sexuality education programs in their congregations. Sections include "The Case for Comprehensive Sexuality Education," "Religion and Sexuality" including recommended books & sample sermons, and "In Your Congregation" including tips for handling conflict, tools to build dialogue, and case studies.
  • The "Blue Pack": In spring of 1999 the UUA sent a turquoise blue envelope of Our Whole Lives resources to every settled religious educator and minister in the denomination. The packet includes background about the curricula, suggestions for congregational preparation, suggested talking points, and answers to frequently asked questions. If you are new in your position or did not receive this information last spring, please contact my office. We have a limited number of packets left over from the mailing that can be distributed.
  • The Website:The Our Whole Lives website includes a section for religious educators. Many of these resources are also available in the "blue pack" mentioned above. The general site at www.uua.org/owl also includes a section for parents, a section with background on the UUA’s history in social justice related to sexuality, pages with information on Our Whole Lives and comprehensive sexuality education, ordering information, and an order form.
  • REACH: The RE Department will continue to include information and updates regarding Our Whole Lives in future REACH packets. We will continue to provide resources through this mode. If you have suggestions regarding OWL-related resources for the REACH packet or if you would like to submit OWL-related resources you have created, please contact the REACH editor
  • Our Whole Lives Coordinator: For specific requests or concerns you may contact the Our Whole Lives Coordinator, Sarah Gibb, in the Religious Education Department. She may be reached at (617)742-2100 x423, sgibb@uua.org or 25 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02108.
