JANUARY 10-14

E372: The Eco-Justice Context of Ministry & Education
The Rev. Dr. Carol Hepokoski and
The Rev. Dr. M. Susan Harlow
Course focuses on the environmental and social justice context of religious communities. Exploration of interrelationships of race, class, gender and geography, particularly in Chicago metropolitan area. Attention to patterns that model sustainability.

TS335: Foundations & Critical Study of Liberal Theology I
Dr. Thandeka
Focuses on origins and development of "personal religion" in the Christian West, with attention to such notions as the "individual," "rational theology," and "moral philosophy." Includes works by Augustine, Descartes, Luther, Calvin, Servetus, and Troeltsch.


JANUARY 17-21

H471: Encountering the Religions of Asia
The Rev. Dr. Wade Wheelock
An overview of classical religious expression of Hindu, Buddhist, Confucian, Taoist and Shinto ways, stressing the competing emphases on goals of transcendence (liberation/salvation) or cosmic and moral order in each. Field trips add to this multi-dimensional classroom experience.

M413: Leadership Theory
Dr. Helen Bishop
The role of the liberal religious leader in various contexts. Varieties of leadership styles, group dynamics and development of conflict management will be considered. Theoretical and practical aspects will be addressed.


JANUARY 24-28

M306: Church & The Changing Family
The Rev. Dr. M. Susan Harlow
Focuses on changes in North American family and implications for religious education. Issues examined: needs of nontraditional families, elder households, families with small children; adolescent sexuality; domestic violence; and congregational support.

M360: Arts & Aesthetics in Ministry
The Rev. Dr. John W. Tolley
This course is an exploration of the relationships between theology, ministry and the arts. A special emphasis will be placed on drama, dance and visual arts as forms of religious expression and experience.


Students registering for a course will be sent a book list with ordering information. Course syllabi and housing information will be sent in October.

Books for Intensive courses will be available from the Seminary Co-Op Bookstore, 5757 S. University Avenue, Chicago, IL 60637. Phone (800) 777-1456.

Readers for some Intensive courses will be available from Meadville/Lombard. Students will be billed for readers upon receipt of course registration.

TUITION AND FEES

Registration Fee: $65 per course (non-refundable)

Credit:
M/L MRP Students: $485 per course
UU Students at other Theological schools: $1,035 per course
Ministers, DREs, Others: $1,035 per course

Audit:
MRP Advisors: $200 per course
Others: $385 per course

Registration deadline is October 15th, 1999.

Class sizes are limited. Early registration is encouraged. Registration payment must accompany each registration. Registration fees are not applied toward tuition fees.

Tuition: One half of the tuition is due by November 1st. Tuition is due in full by December 1st. In the event of withdrawal from the course, tuition will be refunded through December 15th. Checks should be made payable to Meadville/Lombard with January Intensives 2000 noted in the memo space. Send checks to: Intensive Courses Office, Meadville/Lombard, 5701 S. Housing: A housing options list will be mailed to students upon receipt of registration. Approximate housing costs for one week range from $250-$500.

Scholarships: Limited tuition scholarship assistance based on need is available to students taking courses for credit. Application forms will be sent upon receipt of registration. Forms are due to the Intensives Office no later than October 15th, 1999.
