June 1999 Our Whole Lives is a brand-new series of sexuality education curricula for use in our congregations. When used with Sexuality and Our Faith, the religious companion program to Our Whole Lives, the curricula join sexuality education and religious education for people throughout the life span. The following is an update on each level of the curriculum series, its publication date, and the time when its facilitator training will become available.
To order Our Whole Lives and Sexuality and Our Faith: Please visit OWL online for ordering information. Congregations can purchase the Sexuality and Our Faith slides for grades 7-9 and video for grades 10-12 only after their facilitators have received training in the use of those resources. Facilitator Training: Facilitator training is required for all Our Whole Lives facilitators. Training consists of 2-3 days of workshops that prepare participants to effectively facilitate the program in their home congregations. To find a facilitator training near you, call your district office, your district religious education consultant or committee, or contact the OWL Outreach Coordinator, 25 Beacon St., Boston, MA 02108, 617/742-2100, x423, owl@uua.org. Advocacy: The Advocacy Manual for Sexuality Education, Health and Justice: Resources for Communities of Faith is now available from the UUA Bookstore. The manual includes resources to help religious educators, parents, teachers, students and others advocate for sexuality education programs in their congregations and communities. Some districts and congregations may sponsor workshops for Our Whole Lives advocates-contact your district office or the OWL Outreach Coordinator, listed above.
What is Our Whole Lives for Grades 7-9 like?
Elsewhere in this issue of REACH is a sample session from Our Whole Lives for Grades 7-9 called "Examining Values." This sample session is provided in order to give REACH subscribers a sense of the curriculum's session structure and teacher-friendliness. Also included is the Unitarian Universalist supplement to this session. When taught in UU settings, teachers will integrate UU materials from Sexuality and Our Faith throughout the program. "Examining Values" is session two of 27 two-hour sessions. |
