IT TAKES A VILLAGE
Renee Boisvert, DRE
Unitarian Church of Calgary, Alberta, Canada

It takes a village to provide quality Religious Education programming. There are many fun ways to contribute. Offer your time, skills, and interests, even if only for an hour or two this year. All the little projects add up to create a well-rounded and worthwhile program. Thanks for helping us grow!

Please consider the areas in which you would be willing to share your time:

  • Teacher
  • Youth advisor
  • RE committee member
  • Story-telling during a service
  • Organizing outings/social events
  • Church library
  • Facilitating an adult RE course
  • Coordinating the adult RE program
  • Planning and coordinating a children's or intergenerational service
  • Leading a song during children's or intergenerational worship
  • Planning for special intergenerational holiday services
  • Helping out during children's worship services
  • Occasional nursery supervision
  • Assisting a teacher during classes (sign up for one week or many)
  • Helping with church school on Sundays when the DRE is away
  • Helping to supervise an overnight or an outing
  • Cooking breakfast after an overnight
  • Driving
  • Shopping
  • Phoning
  • Fund-raising ideas and/or events
  • Improving church school environment
  • Other (please specify)

How often are you able and willing to share your time?

  • Maybe once, for an hour or so, if you're desperate.
  • Occasional short-term tasks or projects.
  • I prefer to have an ongoing task throughout the year -- perhaps 2 or 3 hours per month
  • I'd be interested in being on a team with a short-term important task.
  • Call me any time. I live to serve our fine church school!

What knowledge, skills, and talents could you share with a group of children? Consider career, hobbies, interests, arts and crafts, education, travels, family history, perhaps even spiritual ideology. The things you take for granted might be the things that would be most appreciated! Go ahead -- write a list! I promise that even if you write fifty things down, we won't call you more than 12 times. And I encourage you to "just say no" when you have enough on your plate! We just want a comprehensive list of potential resources.
