UU Family Camp - August 1-7
De Benneville Pines – Angelus Oaks, CA

Join UU families in the beautiful San Bernardino National Forest for a week of fun. Camp de Benneville Pines' annual Family Camp will be held Sunday, August 1 through Saturday, August 7, 2004. In the morning enjoy programs for children and adults (childcare provided for ages 3+). Spend the afternoon by the pool, making something for your secret pal or playing group games. In the evening, enter the Twilight Zone and attend programs that include karaoke, a night hike, a banquet, a carnival and the unforgettable Talent/No-Talent show. Learn how to play pennywhistle, make a lanyard, do archery or hike in the wilderness. Worship together, reaffirming our UU values. There are lots of potential new friends, as well as families that return year after year. The cabins are comfortable and the food is great.

Religious Education Week – July 17-23
Ferry Beach Park Association – Saco, ME

This week is a time for people of all ages and families of every description to play, learn and rejoice together. UUA President, the Rev. William G. Sinkford, will be the keynote speaker on Sunday at 1 p.m. We will be hosting the Rev. Rosemary McNatt as Minister of the Week. She will lead morning chapel services, Wednesday vespers and friendship circles.

Other highlights of the week include:

  • The Conversation: Conversations throughout the week that will focus on four key questions.
  • Supervised intergenerational activities.
  • Renaissance Module: Teacher Training Module
  • Youth Advisor Training will be offered along with an opportunity to participate in a visioning process for the future.
  • Building Community through Music and Games: Led by Barbara Gay Stoddard, DRE at the Unitarian Society in Ridgewood, NJ and Judy Bowden, UU theatre guru, teacher, mentor, and youth leader.
  • Children and youth programming
  • Family & Friends – July 31-August 7
  • Confirmed workshops are:
    • Creative Writing: Jim Ellefson will again conduct his popular workshop. Jim is a poet and teacher of writing.
    • How Then Shall We Live: Yvette Yeager will once again offer a workshop based on Wayne Muller’s heartfelt book, “How, Then, Shall We Live?” This will be an opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings on the themes of identity, connection, daily practice and generosity in a warm, inviting environment.
  • Other workshops will be announced in early 2004 in a flyer that will be available at Ferry Beach, on the FB web site and by mail.
  • Children and Young Adult Programs: We offer interesting, fun and engaging opportunities for youth. There are six workshops planned according to age from 3-18. Parents of children under three years are fully responsible for their infants.
  • Intergenerational Activities: One of the best aspects of Family & Friends is the chance to engage in afternoon and evening activities designed for young and old alike. The generations join together in fun, laughter, and camaraderie to build and strengthen relationships.

Family Mountain Camp – July 4-9
The Mountain Retreat & Learning Centers, Inc. – Highlands, NC

Go to camp together! Designed for families with children who are 1-11 years, your family will experience typical camp activities – boating and swimming on the lake; non-competitive games, arts & crafts; folk dancing, hiking, nature study and much more. Our minister for the week will lead vespers and a workshop for parents. Our crafts leader will lead crafts for kids and adults alike. Enjoy water play, nature study and more. Childcare will be available during the workshop time and possibly other times with the help from parents co-oping. Beat the heat and take time out his summer to enjoy your family – Mountain Style.

Leadership School for Religious Educators - July 4 – 10
The Ferry Beach Conference Center in Saco, Maine.

Leadership School provides opportunities to explore your own leadership style, gain interpersonal and organizational skills, deepen your spiritual life, and network with colleagues from around the continent. We will create a learning community, give and receive feedback, practice leadership, and have fun while we’re doing it!

Sophia Fahs UU RE Camp – August 17 – 23
Jennings Point of Shelter Island, NY

Sophia Fahs RE Camp is held at the 25 acres on the western shoreline at Jennings Point of Shelter Island. A typical day includes the following: morning worship, morning program sessions for different age groups, circle groups, afternoon activities, evening activities, and a campfire. There are opportunities to experience a variety of activities such as camp newspaper, drawing, drama, cooking, crafts, sports, tie-dye, fishing, swimming, stamp art, talent night, all camp softball game and more. Campers from all age groups enjoy these and other activities.

Religious Education Conference - July 10- 17
Star Island – Portsmouth, NH

UU ministers Rosemary Bray McNatt and Charlie Ortman will engage in dialogue on the work of anti-racism and its relationship to other oppressions, sharing tools to work against racism with courage, confidence, and growing joy. RE Week is full of resources and respite for professional and volunteer leaders involved in lifespan religious education. Workshops will include the Curriculum Renaissance Module. Come participate in a lifespan community with programming for all family members.

All Star I Family Conference – June 26-July 3
Come and enjoy our multigenerational family conference. Our speakers will include Lynn Margulis, an internationally known scientist whose work as explored the nature of life in its many diverse forms. Children have their own program with many activities. Enjoy the intellectual stimulation of the lectures, take part in our traditions of fun and spiritual renewal, converse with friends young and old, simply relax on the porch, or ponder the wonders of the rocks and ocean.

All Star II Family Conference – July 3- July 10
Come rest, relax, and reconnect with friends, family and the elements. We have a creative program for children and teens, daily opportunities for chapel services, time to read, make music, nap, play games and eat ice cream. Our speakers for the week, Jim and Nancy McLaren, will challenge us to explore and understand our human potential through the prisms of science and literature.

Family Camps 1 & 2
Unicamp – Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Last year’s new programs, "Global Dance and Spirituality through Art" return, and Joan Robson will lead a Yoga weekend. There is an exciting “adults & kids 9 & up” Ranch & Riding Experience at our neighbor Carl Cosack’s; and we welcome Brian Calvert back for an Escarpment Adventures weekend. An environmental education program is also hoped for in August. A spectacular 35th Anniversary Celebration will bring our summer season to a close on the Labor Day Weekend.

UniStar
Star Island in Cass Lake, Minnesota

Camp UniStar is a camp for Unitarian Universalist individuals and families and other like-minded people. It is located on Star Island in Cass Lake, a part of the Chippewa National Forest in northern Minnesota. During the season, camp offers ten family-weeks with various programs, a Work Week, Boundary Waters canoe trips, and September group retreats. The lake encourages water activities; the forest trails attract hikers; sunrises and sunsets invite meditation. Each year UniStar campers return for peace, quiet and serenity to an island retreat with no roads or commercial enterprise. Star Island even has its own lake, Windigo, acknowledged in Ripley's Believe It or Not series as “the lake in the island in the lake.”

Family Camp – August 22-28
Unirondack – Lowville, NY

Unirondack’s Family Camp is a weeklong gathering that provides religious, inspirational, educational, and recreational programming. Individuals, couples, and families are welcome to join our intentional community. In addition to a special morning program, the day can include art, drama, swimming, sailing, canoeing, music, dance, volleyball,, worship, coffeehouse, talent show, and a nightly campfire.

Family Canoeing I and II – July 4-10 and August 15-21
These canoeing adventures offer families and adults a marvelous time exploring lakes and rivers in the Adirondack Park. Participants work together to cook, set up and break down camp. These interesting trips offer time for swimming, playing and enjoying the out-of-doors. Before leaving Unirondack, participants learn safety skills and increase their canoeing ability with a short trip exploring the Beaver River. Monday is the start of five days and four nights of canoe camping. Participants return to Unirondack on Friday afternoon. The minimum number is five campers and the maximum is seven campers.

Family Canoeing III – August 30-September 3
This is a shorter session that starts on Monday and ends on Friday

The Mythic Southwest: People, Creativity & Place – June 14-20
Western UU Life Festival (WUULF) at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico

This is an annual intergenerational camp. This year, WUULF is very pleased to announce that Leslie Polling-Kempes has agreed to be our theme speaker! As many of you long-time WUULF attendees know, Leslie is one of the most renowned scholars of the Southwest, and is the expert on the history of "The Valley of the Shining Stone." We're certain that this program will be interesting to all, and will serve to further deepen our appreciation of this very sacred space we know as "Ghost Ranch."

Of course, we'll once again have all of the old favorites, as well ? rafting, the No Talent Show, Square Dancing, Hiking, Drumming and Chanting, Yoga, Book Discussions, Social Hour and plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy the timeless space that is Ghost Ranch.
