Teaching Tolerance

Founded in 1991 by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Teaching Tolerance supports the efforts of K-12 teachers and other educators to promote respect for differences and appreciation of diversity.

Teaching Tolerance serves as a clearinghouse of information about anti-bias programs and activities being implemented in schools across the U.S.A. The ideas presented on their website and in their semiannual magazine, Teaching Tolerance, represent innovative and useful initiatives that can help integrate diversity education into various subject areas. Subscriptions to Teaching Tolerance are free to all educators.

In addition to articles related to diversity and anti-bias education, each issue of Teaching Tolerance includes Idea Exchange (a forum for sharing classroom strategies), a review of Teaching Tools and Resources, and information about programs and activities of other groups and schools.

In addition to the semiannual magazine, Teaching Tolerance has developed and distributed a series of award-winning curriculum packages to educational institutions across the U.S. and abroad.

Planet Tolerance, the children's area of this website, offers interactive features that can expand children's horizons and foster a sense of belonging.

The site includes links (updated every month) to other great web sites recommended by Teaching Tolerance.
