Packet of 20 Pocket Notebook Dividers and Resource Lists for Youth ParticipantsOverview:
This educational videotape series and curriculum is for use with youth and young adults in classrooms, religious groups, and community settings. The primary goals of this resource are:This program challenges the unwritten rules for men and women and illustrates the high price paid when dating partners sacrifice their true selves in exchange for stereotypic male and female roles.
- To inform young people about elements that make up healthy relationships;
- To increase awareness and understanding about violence and abuse; and
- To motivate youth and young adults to seek relationships based on equality and mutual respect.
The three-part videotape series uses pop-culture imagery (movies, TV, song lyrics), documentary interviews, and dramatic vignettes to help participants recognize gender stereotypes and their influence on dating relationships. In each video young people of diverse identity discuss their real-life dating experiences and show how old gender stereotypes are giving way to new expectations for equality and mutual respect.
Each of the six sessions in the curriculum is designed for an hour. Sessions One through Three include the videos followed by a guided discussion of the main themes of that session's video. Sessions Four through Six include learning activities, small group discussions, role-plays, and action planning to reinforce program goals and expand skills in related areas.
Suggested Use:
These resources would be excellent components for a senior high religious education program, youth group program, and/or youth/young adult group program. Your program could include the three video sessions or the total six-session curriculum. I would recommend that you use these resources before engaging participants in an Our Whole Lives program. To order these resources contact the Center for the Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence.
