- This curriculum is designed to help all Unitarian Universalists speak more effectively about our liberal religion and to express their particular perspectives on it.
- Goals for Participants
- To reflect on and share the experience of talking about Unitarian Universalism;
To present the idea of the Unitarian Universalist Principles as pillars of our faith;
To broaden participants awareness of UU history so they can better articulate ideas of their faith tradition.
- Age Range
- Adult and Young Adult
- Size of Group
- Most effective with ten to twenty participants, but can be successfully adapted for any number between six and thirty.
- Space Requirements
- Enough space to comfortably accommodate the seated participants.
- Number and Length of Sessions
- 5 sessions, with an optional sixth session available.
Length: 90 minutes, but could be expanded to 2 hours. - Leader Training
- It is recommended that facilitators have strong leadership skills and are willing to learn the necessary content if they are not already well-versed in UU history and the UU Principles.
- Strengths
- Gives participants a chance to articulate their faith and beliefs through role play situations;
Has a flexible enough structure it can be used in many different ways (as part of a Sunday morning Adult Ed course, weekend retreat, etc.);
Includes the option of creating a worship service for participants to share the ideas explored in this course. - Limitations
- Relies upon written material for homework assignments which must be read in between sessions.
- Adaptability
- Easily adaptable to accommodate the needs of specific groups, including youth.
- Unitarian Universalist Values
- One of the sessions specifically focuses upon the UU Principles as pillars of our faith and values. The Handouts include heartfelt statements from people articulating their Unitarian Universalist faith.
