We Believe
Learning and Living Our Unitarian Universalist Principles

By Ann Fields and Joan Goodwin

Theme and Description
This program for small, multi-age groups, builds on the 7 Principles of Unitarian Universalism. Since Unitarian Universalists often state what we do not believe, the editors chose to work from the very foundation of our faith when developing this curriculum. The activities encourage participants to incorporate the Principles into their lives.
Goals for Participants
To explore what they know about the 7 Principles;
To reflect on this knowledge;
To engage in activities inspired by the Principles;
To incorporate the Principles into their daily lives.

For children 5 to 12, some parts are accessible and interesting to preschool, junior-high, senior-high students and adults.
Size of Group
10 or fewer; works best for groups of at least 4
Space Requirements
A comfortable meeting room, either at home or in church; a large space needed for some activities
Number and Length of Sessions
22 sessions
Length: 1 hour
Leader Training
No particular training is necessary
Leader Preparation
1 hour

Strengths
Features a variety of activities of interest to children and adults.
Provides an easy way to lead groups in small churches or at home.
Contains fully scripted, self-contained session plans, complete with music and other supplementary resources.
Limitations
Requires that leaders spend some start-up time preparing the box of standard supplies.
Uses stories and songs that may be too sophisticated for the youngest participants.
Adaptability
This program is designed for small, multi-age groups, but may be adapted by experienced leaders for larger groups with members of a similar age.
Inexperienced leaders, and those new to Unitarian Universalism, find this program especially accessible and easy to teach.
Unitarian Universalist Values
The values expressed in the 7 Principles are an integral part of this curriculum.
