Salary Recommendations for Interns

The recommended stipends for interns that you see below are the same dollar amounts that we've used since 2002. However, since the cost of living has increased since then, if congregations want to adjust these stipends for cost of living changes this year, the amounts shown below should be increased by five percent. It is probable that higher stipend amounts will be recommended for the 2007-2008 internship year.

The Geo Wage Index should also be taken into account, since the cost of living varies throughout the country.  (Geo Wage Index Three is considered the national average, and that rating pertains to the stipends cited below.)

After the five percent increases, the amounts should be adjusted upwards by six percent for congregations in Geo Wage Index Four, and by twelve percent for congregations in Geo Wage Index Five.

The stipends should be adjusted downwards by six percent for congregations in Geo Wage Index Two, and by twelve percent for congregations in Geo Wage Index One.

If these adjustments are not made, then the student intern compensation will fall further behind increases in the Consumer Price Index and also be out of line with wage rates in various US cities where UU congregations are located.

Stipend recommendations for congregations with memberships of 

• less than 250 members: $1200/month full-time, $600/month half-time
• 250-499 members: $1300/month full-time, $650/month half-time
• 500-749 members: $1400/month full-time, $700/month half-time
• more than 750 members: $1500/month full-time, $750/month half-time
