Where do I begin?
|
Questions to ask (and answer) yourself:
- What specifically am I being asked to do? What is my “charge”
or my “goal”? Is there a “job description”
available? What is it I, or others, want accomplished? (Create
a committee? Take over an already established committee? Lead
an effort that is time-limited? Solve a particular problem?)
- Who, if anyone, is currently leading this effort? Is that person
available to help or consult with in the future?
- Who are the other people with interest in this issue or effort?
Are they willing to become or remain involved?
- Do I have a budget? How much? Is it more or less than in the
past? Does it seem reasonable? If not, are there additional sources
of funding? (Often talking with the treasurer or the office administrator
will provide an answer to this question).
- How many other people will I need to accomplish this goal?

Questions to ask (and answer) with others (adapted from
the works of Peter Drucker):
- What is our mission (what is the reason for our existence?).
- Who are the people we are striving to serve?
- What do the people we hope to serve consider value?
- What have been (should be) our results? How are we (have we)
been meeting their needs?
- What would it take to be more successful?
- What is our plan?
