Mission of the Office for Congregational Advocacy and Witness

Our mission is to support and enhance the social justice efforts and programs of Unitarian Universalist congregations and to help increase the collective UU and interfaith voice in the public policy arena. We promote UU and interfaith social justice campaigns and actions and provide a variety of resources to social action committee members and ministers through:

  • list serves
  • the UUA web site
  • workshops, meetings, and
  • consultation.

We support UUA public witness team positions, the UUA Washington Office advocacy agenda, and the UUA Journey Toward Wholeness and socially responsible investing initiatives. We also provide liaison for social justice affiliates with the UUA and congregations.

Resources that we develop, provide, and promote include:

  • effective process and “how to” resources
  • issue-oriented educational information
  • campaign and action alerts
  • community organizing networks
  • congregational best practices, stories, and case studies, and
  • UUA news and updates.

Our feedback mechanisms enable us to continually gather congregational stories and news for internal and external media, improve and update resources, and strengthen social justice efforts.
