Overview of Use
December 19, 2005
The last eight months have seen increased interest and activity in our wide variety of Uncommon Denomination resources. Eleven congregations have submitted a signed Uncommon Denomination Covenant stating a commitment to work with the UUA and district to grow Unitarian Universalism with the help of UD suggested guidelines and resources. The resources provide free and inexpensive marketing and outreach materials to our congregations and increased consistency of message and design. The eleven congregations are:

Imagine a Religion
The creative materials from the successful “Imagine a Religion” Houston advertising campaign are now available in generic format for congregations to use. Unveiled on our website in November, the resources include:
- Four black & white print ads
- One special interest (GLBT) print ad
- Brochure graphics
- Three post-cards templates
- Large banners (5' x 15' available to order) or artwork for you to make your own
- Copy of Public Radio announcements
- Photos of the Houston UU models
Our new postcard purchase plan was introduced in October. Congregations and districts can order postcards online and have a variety of options for printing their information on the blank side of the postcard. There are three distinct images with positive messages about our faith from our Imagine a Religion Houston ad campaign. Already fourteen congregations have ordered postcards to use for
- Thank you notes to visitors
- Invitations to new member events
- Mass mailings for general promotion
- Introducing the congregation to people that live in the church neighborhood
- Follow-up to the annual canvas
- Announcements of special events
Twenty-four congregations have contacted us regarding use of the Uncommon Denomination service mark and issues ads, or to purchase ready-made banners to display at parades, booths, events, and on their church buildings! Among these are congregations that seek our help as they formulate a marketing strategy and begin the nascent steps toward signing a Covenant.
I am extremely pleased with the ongoing interest in the Uncommon Denomination program as we continue to introduce new and easy-to-use materials, and hear from congregations complimenting the quality of the resources.
