In addition to the above congregations, we’ve heard from 25 others who are researching use of or using some of the Uncommon Denomination Materials, including those that are issue-focused. “Civil Marriage is a Civil Right” banners and ad messages have garnered the most interest of the issue-focused materials over the last six months. We’ve received positive feedback on the beginning tools such as the online form “Before You Begin”. These tools help congregations to identify their strengths and weaknesses and guide them through the self-evaluation process. Predictably, money is a big consideration for our congregations and many have a history of allocating no or little money to promotion. But growth and becoming more financially secure, vibrant religious communities is a consistent ideal. For many congregations, there remains a struggle between the history and the ideal. For those congregations looking for ways to reach out to their communities or to add to their membership numbers, the Uncommon Denomination provides the UUA-approved messaging that starts congregations on their way to identifying and promoting their own identity within the larger context of Unitarian Universalism.
