New Director of Ministry and Professional Leadership Appointed

(Boston , MA – March 6, 2006) The Rev. William G. Sinkford, President of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations, today announced the name of the UUA's new Director of Ministry and Professional Leadership.

"I am very pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev. Elizabeth Miller as the new Director of the Ministry and Professional Leadership Staff Group of the UUA," said Sinkford. "As Director, Beth will lead the staff group that facilitates the call, credentialing, settlement, and development of our ministers and religious educators and that supports the preparation, certification, and ongoing development of administrators and musicians for service in our UU congregations and the larger community.

"The field of applicants was very strong," Sinkford continued. "This position is an immense responsibility, and I am confident that Beth has both the skills and the commitment to succeed in this work."

The Rev. Miller has served the UU Church of the Monterey Peninsula in California for the past nine years. She will join the UUA staff in June and will succeed the Rev. David Hubner who is retiring in July after serving eighteen years in the Ministry and Professional Leadership Staff Group, the last five years as Director.

President Sinkford and an advisory committee of UU leaders conducted interviews with the final candidates for the position. This committee included Kay Montgomery, the UUA's Executive Vice-President; the Rev. Ken Sawyer, president of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers' Association (UUMA); the Rev. Susan Archer, president of the Liberal Religious Educators' Association (LREDA); and the Rev. Linda Olson Peebles from the UUA Board of Trustees.
