Pastoral letter to California from the Rev. William Sinkford

Dear California Unitarian Universalist Friends,

Thank you for your work to help secure the victory of the California legislators supporting equal marriage for all people.  This was a tremendous boost to our work for justice and gave a signal to the country that this is not just "judicial activists" that support human equality.

We, at the UUA, were deeply disappointed in Governor Schwarzenegger's announced intention to veto the bill.  Despite his claim of a desire for full equality, we know the governor is missing an historic opportunity.  We are glad you are not.  Thank you for your Valentines, your protests, your diligence, and your faith in this work.  We particularly commend the work of the Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of California and those congregations and individuals who worked with them over the last year in the journey toward justice for bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender people.  We have faith that your efforts will be rewarded and soon marriage equality will be available to all Californians.

Please keep your elected officials informed of your views, your neighbors aware of your cause, and yourselves steady and true in this work.  You make us proud of our Unitarian Universalist faith.

Sincerely,

Rev. William Sinkford
President, Unitarian Universalist Association
