UUA President Joins Cyber-March on Global Warming
UUA President William G. Sinkford has lent his support to a
cyber-march on global warming .
The virtual march is an effort to "a non-political effort to bring all
Americans together in one place, proving there is a vast consensus that
global warming is here now and it is time for our country to start
addressing it. With the support of leading scientists, political and
religious leaders, prominent Americans and concerned citizens, the
Virtual March on Washington will move across the United States via the
Internet from one town to the next, showing the evidence of global
warming's alarming affects, and highlighting real people's concerns and
real solutions along the way."
In his statement, Sinkford says, "I join this cyber march against global
warming, and encourage other Unitarian Universalists to do so, because
it is an act of faith to speak out on behalf of our earth. For hundreds
of years, our theology has been radically incarnational--we do not
understand the Holy to be separate from this life, on this planet, made
manifest in concrete acts of caring for one another in our mutual
vulnerability. As we sing out praises for the beauty of the earth, we
also sing out commitment to protect that beauty."
Sinkford, who is appealing to Unitarian Universalists to participate in
the virtual march, is joined in his support of this effort by a diverse
group of religious leaders, politicians, and public figures, including
Sens. John McCain and Joseph Lieberman, General Wesley Clark, Rabbi
David Saperstein, actor Leonardo DiCaprio, and former Vice President Al
Gore.
