Light a Candle for Democracy on November 1
Dear friends:
I trust that all Unitarian Universalists will be at the polls on Tuesday to vote, and I hope that as many of us as possible will be working to get out the vote and watching the polls to make sure that all registered voters can cast and a ballot and that all those ballots will be counted. But it is appropriate for us to do that work grounded in the principles we affirm and the faith we share. On November 1, the night before this critically important national election, I invite you to participate in a candlelight vigil in your community. I hope that you will join the Unitarian Universalist Association, the American Friends Service Committee, the National Council of Churches, and many other interfaith groups, in showing that democracy matters and that no matter our vote on November 2, we all join together in calling for peace, justice, and safety for all our citizens.
Vigils will take place at 7 p.m. in communities like yours throughout the
country and abroad.
There are two ways for you to participate:
Join me in lighting a candle for justice and democracy on the night of November
1. And most important, please make sure that you vote on November 2 and make
your voice heard.
In faith,

Rev. William G. Sinkford
President, Unitarian Universalist Association
