UUA President William
G. Sinkford Reacts to Columbia Disaster
Like all Americans and citizens of the world, I was shocked on Saturday
to hear of the destruction of the space shuttle Columbia and the deaths
of the seven courageous astronauts. We are dealing with yet another national
tragedy. We hold the families of the astronauts in our hearts. It is now
our task to make a space for the grief we feel and to find a ground of
hope from which to move forward.
We celebrate the lives and the accomplishments of these seven brave women
and men, and we take solace in the knowledge that their deaths were in
the service of a mission to which they felt a joyful call. We trust that
they are now at peace.
In faith,

William G. Sinkford
