UUA First Anniversary Celebration Toast

May 17, 2005
Hillary Goodridge

One of the best things I have learned during these past few years is
that people's capacity for love far exceeds our inclination to fear.

Time and time again we've had the privilege of hearing stories of
amazing transformation: of a family member, a co-worker, a friend, a
politician, brought about by witnessing a couple in love.

It's pretty basic, and reminds me of the Groucho Marx line: "Why, a
child of 5 would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of
five!"

Well that is what Barbara Gifford, Tracy Hurd, Erika Nonken and the UUA
have done - they sent someone to fetch some children. And those children
have sent us some amazing messages. Here's what some of them say
[including their spelling]:

* All families are built of love
* You did it. Horay. You worked hard and did it.
* Love is the blueprint of a family.
* Love is nateural
* Same sex marriage. Nothing rong. Rock 'n roll.
* Stand on the side of love.
* Love is love no matter who you are in love with.
* Let's be logical: love is not a sin.

So this is a toast to the children whose hearts and words decorate this
building today and to all our children for their courage, their words
and their hearts.
