Monthly Mailing to Congregations
August 2004
Dear friends:
The Long Beach General Assembly of 2004 is over, and the results are in: it was a rousing success! The delegates passed five Actions of Immediate Witness: “The Alien Tort Claims Act and Accountability for Multinational Corporations,” “Electronic Voting,” “Iraq: Sovereignty, the United Nations, and Human Rights,” “Oppose Federal Marriage Amendment,” and “Renew the Assault Weapons Ban.” There is also a new Study/Action Issue on the “Threat of Global Warming,” and a new Statement of Conscience on Civil Rights. Full text versions of these documents can be found at www.uua.org/csw.
Because the beginning of the church year is approaching, we have included many different resources for your congregation. There is information about ordering audio-visual materials from the Long Beach GA , as well as materials about next year's GA in Forth Worth, Texas. Lifespan Faith Development, Skinner House , the Church of the Larger Fellowship and the UUA Bookstore have included information about their new published resources. For the young people of your congregation, there are new materials from the Office of Young Adult and Campus ministry and the Youth Office . You will also find resources relating to funding from the Annual Program Fund, the Unitarian Universalist Funding Program , and the Unitarian Universalist Women's Federation .
Enjoy the rest of August, and best wishes to your congregation as you return from your summer's adventures! The next packet will arrive in September, and will be filled with even more materials to help you get the new church year off to a great start.
In Peace,
Erika Nonken
