Prayer
from the Rev. Judith Walker Riggs
9/11//01

Sweet Spirit of Life, as we reel in shock at the tragic events of this day, we hold in our hearts all those injured or killed in this terror, and all those who love them whose lives also are forever changed.

We hold in our hearts those who escaped serious physical injury, but whose moments and hours of horror have left deep scars.

We pray for all those who do not yet know the fate of those they love. And for the emergency workers who have had to see, and touch, and live through more than they ever expected to have to bear.

And help us also remember and hold in our hearts those of Arab background and Islamic faith who live in our midst, who are just as horrified and appalled as we are, and yet who may find themselves victims of sudden public hate and threat.

Help us honor all our neighbors as ourselves, and refuse to let these moments extinguish the light of love and charity in our hearts.

Amen

A heavy hearted Judith Walker-Riggs
