I teach 5th grade in a public school located in a "ghetto" town in texas. I have been amazed at the questions the children have asked me this week.
"Is this World War Three?"
"Why can't George Bush stop the war?"
"Will Hitler be fightin' in this war?"
"Are we gonna die in our sleep?"
"How they gonna be takin' us over to the desert?"
"Will they take my momma away?"
"Where is Iraq?"
"We should just let George Bush and that Hussain guy fight in a boxing ring!"
"What happens to the little kids in Iraq?"
"What happened to Osama bin Laden?"
"Why are they (Iraq) mad at us? They attacked us first on September 11th- didn't they?"
"Did Iraq blow up our space shuttle? Is that why we are fighting them?"
and many, many more...
we have a problem at our school with discipline anyway...this past week has been really rough.
Have any other teachers noticed more "hate" at school this week? Any advice or help would be great!
