Dear Shelly:
Like you, I have a sense of ambivalence about our actions. I feel that we should have worked within the UN, and our actions will haunt us for a long time to come. However, now that we have started military conflict, I feel that we need to see it through with the minimum loss of life possible on all sides. I sincerely hope that our government will keep its promises to rebuild Iraq (unlike our trivial support for insufficient support for rebuilding Afghanistan). I find myself hoping that the President is correct in his assessment of the threat posed by Hussein; I fear we will find we have once again been manipulated, as we were with the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

: Although I sent a letter to Pres. Bush opposing an invasion into Iraq, I've not been as vocal or active in my opposition. I've not attended marches and have not spoken out against it in my congregation. It's clear I'm probably still on the fence about this, though I officially sent a letter of opposition. I am uncomfortable with my position on the fence. Are there other UUs who are in the same place as I?
