On the Crisis of our Days
(March 3, 2003)
Rev. Audrey W. Vincent, D. Min
O Spirit of Life, Eternal Presence:
We come together this morning with anxiety in the air, with fears
within and without, we come glad to be reminded that we have much
to be thankful for.
Even in these difficult times, we have much to be thankful for.
We are grateful for everyone here today. Everyone has a place within
these walls. These are divisive times, we are of differing opinions,
but we are all one body here.
We pray for wisdom for our leaders and all leaders. We pray for
wisdom for the human family, wisdom that recognizes the vulnerability
of every human being on earth, vulnerability that invites us to
remember our service men and women in harm’s way who have
yet to experience a war so terrible, the families of our service
men and women waiting at home, anxious and uncertain fearful of
what the future holds for them.
Anxious and uncertain and vulnerable and in harm’s way are
also the people of Iraq, people with families, people with sons
they love; sons with families they don’t want to leave, also
fearful of what the future holds for them.
Let us pray for wisdom for ourselves, that we understand this groaning,
wounded world we live in, that our leaders find openings in the
conflict where resolution might be possible, where war might be
averted. We pray for a peaceful solution that will lead toward improved
trust among nations and peoples, and a world where each and all
understand that a secure home is a human right for all, where everyone
has a place at the table and no one is left out, where everyone
has a future of promise, where all share in the bounty of this wonderful
planet home.
We ask these things in your name, by however we call you.
Amen.
