Liturgical Elements, UU Perspectives: The War in Iraq

Prayer for Peace

Let us invite peace into our hearts as we pray:

God of many names, known and unknown to us,
we stand in confusion about the events in our world,
worried, anxious, agitated, angry.
Help us to know peace in our hearts and
to act from that place of peace in our lives,
that we might live peace into being.

We pray for peace not only in our hearts,
but in the hearts of all those who contemplate war -
the soldiers who gather ready to do their duty,
our nation's leaders who make decisions that will call those soldiers - or not;
the UN Weapon Inspectors whose challenges immerse them in conflict,
the Iraqi leaders;
the world's leaders;
and the children and adults who may suffer the brutal assault of war.
Together, may the world live peace into being.

We pray for peace in the hearts of all the people,
that their decisions be based on the good of all,
not the economic advantage or political will of a few.
Let us live peace into being.

Guide us in the ways of peace, justice, and goodwill -
for we need that inspiration.

In the name of peace,
AMEN
