Support for Military Members, UU Perspectives: The War in Iraq

FIRST UNITARIAN CHURCH in Toledo, Ohio External Site Link

PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CARING FOR OUR MILITARY FAMILIES is the theme of a workshop that will be offered at First Unitarian Church on Thursday, March 13th, from 12:00 – 3:00 P.M.

CARING FOR OUR MILITARY FAMILIES will teach congregational leaders about the needs of military personnel who are deployed to war zones, the needs of their families, and how congregations can respond in the event of a casualty. Participants will learn how congregations can offer specific ministries to those who give so much to our country. They will also learn military protocol for those wounded, killed, or missing in action and ways that congregations can bring support and healing.

The principal workshop leader will be Samuel R. Weinstein, a Chaplain (Lt. Colonel) with the United States Air Force. Rabbi Weinstein serves the Congregation Shomer Emunim in Sylvania, as well as the Pastoral Care Advisory Board of St. Vincent Health Center, the Board of the Victory Center, and is a member of the Crisis Response Team of the Ottawa Hills Local Schools. Rabbi Weinstein holds a Master’s degree in Counseling from Gannon University, and earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary, focusing his doctoral thesis on pastoral care. He is also certified by the American Academy of Bereavement.

CARING FOR MILITARY FAMILIES is free, and persons of all religious denominations are welcome. A lunch will be offered at noon, at a cost of $10.00. Those wanting lunch should make a reservation by calling First Unitarian Church at (419) 241-7189. First Unitarian Church is located at 2210 Collingwood Blvd. Toledo, OH 43620-1147.
