3 Episcopal bishops rap marriage bill

June 7, 2003

Three Episcopal bishops yesterday announced their opposition to a House bill that would restrict the definition of marriage in Massachusetts to the union of one man and one woman. Bishops M. Thomas Shaw, Bud Cederholm, and Gayle Harris released a statement to the diocese stating that all families present in their church are welcome and that the proposed amendment, House Bill 3190, treats gays and lesbians as second-class citizens. The statement also said gay and lesbian couples have brought life to the diocese and noted their support for the public advocacy work of Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders.
