A Grant May be the Answer
Need a grant for a building project, social justice work, to start a young adult group, or other purpose? The UUA and its related organizations have grants for many purposes. - First Home Grant Program -- for congregations buying their first piece of land or erecting a first building. Contact: Congregational Fundraising Services: (617) 948-4251.

Young Adult Groups -- grants to $500 to start a YA or campus group, or other project benefiting YAs. Office of Young Adult and Campus Ministry, (617) 948-4620.

Racial Justice/Urban Ministry -- Whitney M. Young Jr. Urban Ministry Fund Grants to support racial justice work and urban ministry projects as part of the Journey Toward Wholeness Path to Anti-racism. Pam Bachman, pbachman@uua.org; (617) 948-4642.

Ministry -- The Office of Church Staff Finances administers a number of grant programs available to ministers, seminarians, or surviving family members of ministers. (617) 948-6421.

Ministerial Development -- grants to $500 for continuing ministry education are available through the Office of Ministerial Development. For ministers, ministry teams, religious educators, and community ministers serving in the field. Jean Hartman, jhartman@uua.org; (617) 948-6437.

Ministerial Internship -- Matching grants to congregations for ministerial interns. Funds from the St. Lawrence Foundation. Ken Oliff, koliff@uua.org; (617) 948-6415.

Religious Education -- grants for preparing professional and lay educators, buying curricula and equipment, and paying for continuing education. The Liberal Religious Educators' Association also makes grants of up to $15,000 over three years to help congregations increase compensation of educators. Next deadline is Nov. 1. Youth Programs -- Youth Funding for Unitarian Universalist Develop-ment (YFUUD) grants are available to create and support new and developing programs, create conferences and training to address a specific issue, and develop a resource or publication to fill a void. YRUU@uua.org; (617) 948-4350.

The Fund for Unitarian Universalism -- supports projects that strengthen UU institutions, extend UU visibility, enrich community/worship life, or preserve/celebrate religious heritage. Preference to development of innovative or experimental programs with denominational impact. Maximum $20,000, average $10,000.

Fund for UU Social Responsibility -- grants to projects that increase UU involvement in social responsibility. Maximum $20,000. Challenge grants common.
