A Key Part of Pre-GA 99 ActivitiesSurrounded by blue skies and the desert hills of Utah, 40 of about 51 Extension and New Congregation Ministers attended Extension Ministry Days, June 21-22, at this year's Pre-GA in Salt Lake City. This year's program, held at the Wyndham Hotel, incorporated insights from "Leading Change in the Congregation" by Gilbert R. Rendle, on the change process and the role of leaders and on Appreciative Inquiry as an alternative to our typical problem-solving approaches.
During the two-day event, extension and new congregation ministers participated in worship services and shared their experiences as Extension Ministers. The event also included a banquet luncheon, "Celebrating Our Ministries," where congregations and their ministers were recognized for their work and received awards for growth in adult membership and children's religious education or certificates for other accomplishments. Other ministers were congratulated for their completion of the Extension Ministry Program.
Extension Ministry Days allowed time for this group of extension and new congregation ministers to discuss issues relevant to their ministries. The group shared successes and failures, hopes and concerns. This event is a continuation of the Training in Extension Ministry Program that all Extension ministers participate in at the beginning of their ministries. This event was facilitated by Lawrence Palmieri Peers, Director of Extension Education and Research; Margaret Beard, Director of Extension Ministry; Donna DiSciullo, Coordinator of Young Adult/Campus Ministry; and Wayne Clark, Director of Building Programs. All are staff in the UUA's Department for Congregational, District & Extension Services
