This work is carried out by three funding panels.

The Fund for Unitarian Universalist Social Responsibility seeks to fund new programs or existing programs that are at a point of significant growth. Proposals from coalitions or collaborations must demonstrate active UU participation and commitment. The Fund provides grants to Unitarian Universalist groups that
- strengthen Unitarian Universalist institutions and community life;
- nurture and celebrate our liberal religious heritage;
- encourage a generosity among Unitarian Universalists that is reflected in commitments of time, money and energy.
The Fund for a Just Society seeks to fund projects for organizing and mobilizing people to create change, and projects that are less likely to receive funding because of the innovative or challenging nature of the work. The Fund provides grants to non-Unitarian Universalist organizations that
- increase the involvement of Unitarian Universalists in social responsibility through education, service, advocacy, and systemic change;
- link Unitarian Universalists with the larger community;
- foster a generosity of spirit in all aspects of our Unitarian Universalist communities.
Three volunteer panels review applications and award grants with the assistance of staff. Panel members are Unitarian Universalists, appointed by the Unitarian Universalist Association's Board of Trustees. The Panels review applications twice annually, in fall and spring.
- organize to bring about systemic change leading to a more just society;
- work for the empowerment of those who have been disenfranchised and excluded from resources, power, and the right to self-determination;
- inspire generosity among our members and member congregations.
Grant application deadlines are March 15 and September 15. Panels meet within two months of the application deadlines, and applicants are notified in writing of the funding decisions shortly after.
