Inspired by the richness and diversity of our liberal religious tradition, the mission of the Unitarian Universalist Funding Program, which is fully funded by the Veatch Program of the UU Congregation at Shelter Rock, is to promote the influence of Unitarian Universalist principles through grantmaking. Grants are made that

This work is carried out by three funding panels.

The Fund for Unitarian Universalism seeks to fund innovative, challenging programs that will have a wide denominational impact. It provides grants to Unitarian Universalist groups that

The Fund for Unitarian Universalist Social Responsibility seeks to fund new programs or existing programs that are at a point of significant growth. Proposals from coalitions or collaborations must demonstrate active UU participation and commitment. The Fund provides grants to Unitarian Universalist groups that The Fund for a Just Society seeks to fund projects for organizing and mobilizing people to create change, and projects that are less likely to receive funding because of the innovative or challenging nature of the work. The Fund provides grants to non-Unitarian Universalist organizations that Three volunteer panels review applications and award grants with the assistance of staff. Panel members are Unitarian Universalists, appointed by the Unitarian Universalist Association's Board of Trustees. The Panels review applications twice annually, in fall and spring.

Grant application deadlines are March 15 and September 15. Panels meet within two months of the application deadlines, and applicants are notified in writing of the funding decisions shortly after.

Restrictions:

Grants from the Fund for Unitarian Universalism are made to UU groups in the U.S. and Canada. The maximum grant is $20,000. The average grant is $7000. Grants are not made to activities that are generally considered to be part of the ongoing work of UU organizations.

Grants from the Fund for Unitarian Universalist Social Responsibility are made to UU groups in the U.S. and Canada. The maximum grant is $20,000. The average grant is $6,000. Grants are not made to activities that are generally considered to be part of the ongoing work of UU organizations.

Grants from the Fund for a Just Society are made to tax-exempt, nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations-in the U.S. and Canada. The maximum grant is $10,000. The average grant is $5,500. Grants are not made for social services, re-granting, educational institutions, medical/scientific research. Media/cultural projects, publications and curricula are only funded when they are an integral part of a strategy leading to collective action for social change.
