• Chinese Dissident Wei Jingsheng received the 1998 Melcher Book Award for his work The Courage to Stand Alone: Letters from Prison and Other Writings

• Tom Turnipseed received the Holmes-Weatherly award for social justice.

The Service of the Living Tradition is the annual service honors those entering the professional ministry, those receiving final ministerial fellowship, those retiring from active ministerial service, and those ministers who have died during the past year.
