UUA General Assembly 98
Thinking about Ministry
Rev. Ellen Brandenberg

GA logoRev. Ellen Brandenburg, Director of Ministerial Education for UUA, directed her presentation to about 70 folks who are "Thinking About Ministry." She stressed the importance of obtaining the support of a UU congregation and attending a career assessment seminar. Other "must-haves" on a lengthy list were covered.

A ministry of religious education, a community-based ministry, and a ministry in a traditional parish setting have the same requirements. Financial aid and various methods of paying for graduate school were discussed along with the economic realities of the ministry. Although the process is daunting, it serves to make the student think about the life of a minister and allows the UUA to form and retain well-prepared and dedicated ministers.
