Spiritual Practices in Everyday Life
Rev. Scott Alexander

GA logo"We have terrible spiritual self-esteem!" according to Rev. Scott Alexander, author of the upcoming book, Everyday Spiritual Practice. He and a six-person panel reflected on the many ways our spiritual lives are enhanced by personal devotional practices. The panel included Jim Austin and the Reverends Brian Kiely, Art McDonald, Johanna Nichols, Julie-Ann Silberman, and Arvid Straube, all of whom are contributors to the book.

Alexander defines devotional practice as any intentional, consistent behavior that deepens one's connection to life. The panelists described practices that reflect UU diversity. Buddhist mindfulness, keeping a dynamic partner relationship, the creation of a home altar, etc. were examples of the daily devotions we engage in, sometimes without awareness of their spiritual relevance.
