UUA General Assembly - June 25th, 1998
Opening Day

GA logo The 38th General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association opened on Thursday evening in the Riverside Convention Center with music, a ceremony welcoming sixteen new congregations, and a parade of banners that brought a dramatic visual representation of the Association's more than 1000 member congregations into the Empire Convention Hall.

The Opening ceremonies featured the a capella music of "Olympia's Daughters," a twenty-voice group from Plainfield, New Jersey; a Rainbow Welcome which ended in a musical rendition of "Amazing Grace," with new words written by the Rev. Gretchen Woods of Reston, Virginia, and greetings brought by the local and continental planning committees which organized what promises to be the largest General Assembly in Unitarian Universalist history.
