2006 Program Listing for Your PDA

PDF Format

The free Acrobat Reader program can display PDF (Adobe Acrobat) files on Palm and Pocket PC PDAs. First, install the Acrobat Reader on your PDA. Second, download the GA program listing files and transfer them to the PDA.

Note: You can use the Adobe Acrobat Reader to read all kinds of PDF files, not just those from the UUA.

Download and Install the Adobe Acrobat Reader on your PDA

The Acrobat Reader for PDAs has two parts:

  • the program that runs on your computer that prepares the PDF files for your PDA
  • the reader that runs on your PDA.

Follow these steps to download and install them:

  1. Download the Adobe Acrobat Reader External Site: link will open a new window for the Palm OS or for the Pocket PC. On the download page, set the Platform option to Palm OS or Pocket PC, set the Connection Speed option to Dial-up or Broadband (for DSL or cable connections), and click the Download button. Make a note of where you save the program file, because you'll need it in the next step.
  2. Install the downloaded file on your computer. (For Windows computers, double-click the file that you just downloaded.)
Now you have a program called Adobe Reader for Palm OS or Adobe Reader for Pocket PC installed on your computer.
  3. Synchronize your PDA with your computer. For most PDAs, you put your PDA into its cradle and press the Synchronize button on on the PDA. When you synchronize the PDA, you install the Acrobat Reader on the PDA.

Now you have the software you need.

Download the GA Program Listings to the PDA

Follow these steps to download the GA program listings to your computer and then transfer them to the PDA:

  1. For each of the days you'll be at GA, right-click one of the following links and choose Save Target As (or Save Link Target As) Acrobat Reader Required:
  2. If you see a message saying that the PDF isn't tagged, click OK to tag it. (This message relates to the internal format of the PDF file.)
When you are finished, you end up with files named ga-program-wed.pdf, ga-program-thu.pdf, ga-program-fri.pdf, ga-program-sat.pdf, and ga-program-sun.pdf (if you download files for all five days).
  3. Run the Adobe Reader program you just installed. You see a window that looks something like this:

  1. Drag the files into this window. Or, click the Add button and select the files.
  2. Exit from the Adobe Reader program. (Or, leave it open, if you plan to transfer other PDF files to your PDA.)
  3. Synchronize your PDA again to transfer the PDFs to your PDA.

Viewing the GA Program Files on Your PDA

Now the GA Program files are on your PDA. To view them, choose the Acrobat Reader program on your PDA. (On a Palm, press the Home button and choose Acrobat Reader from the list of programs.) If you downloaded more than one PDF, you see a list of them. Click a title to view it. If you downloaded only one PDF file, it opens automatically.

Once the GA program files are visible on your PDA, you can move around them. The scroll bar to the right is for the current page. The scroll bar at the bottom is for the whole document (that is, the whole day).
