3071 Anti-Racism for Young Children, Families and Congregations,
Part I
Rev. Pat Hoertdoerfer and Rev. Danielle DiBona
Sponsor: Lifespan Faith Development, UUA
About a dozen children sat on squares, surrounded by blocks,
books, puzzles, cushions, easels, paints, and paper. They
heard their names—Sara, Honesty, Princess Maggie, Emerson—sung
in welcome, and they heard stories about families. They offered
pets’ names as favorite members of their own families.
When they got squirmy, they picked activities like music
and make-believe, paints to mix the color of their skin or
puzzles and books.
These were all part of an anti-bias workshop that was fun
for the little ones and, for the big ones, a welcome respite
from all that adult stuff they’ve been experiencing
at GA.
