3031 The Earth Charter: A Tool for Change

Rev. Mel Hoover, Maryann Ferenc Blitz, and Katie Templin Culbert

Some of the words of the Earth Charter Remote Link are familiar to UUs, for example: “Affirm faith in the inherent dignity of all human beings,” while other words go further than our UU Principles and Purposes. For example, section 1a of the Earth Charter states: “Recognize that all beings are interdependent and have value regardless of its worth to human beings.”

The Earth Charter was endorsed by UUs Remote Link at the 2002 GA in Quebec City. Maryann Ferenc Blitz described how we can become involved: see the EarthCharterUSA.org Remote Link site for ideas. For example, individuals or organizations can endorse the charter or join a summit at hytp://www.earthchartersummits.org/ Remote Link.

Katie Templin Culbert introduced the Earth Scouts Remote Link, an organization that empowers youth, 3-17 years old, to learn about the Earth Charter.
