1024 Program
OPENING CELEBRATION
42nd General Assembly
Unitarian Universalist Association
Thursday, June 26, 2003
Hynes Convention Center
Boston, Massachusetts
Our
Unitarian Universalist heritage
challenges us
to be ahead of the wave,
not behind it,
and not just on its crest.
We
must recognize that
it is our precious heritage,
to lead,
to be aware,
to speak out,
to have courage,
to be dedicated,
to take a stand.
INGATHERING with hellos & hugs, greetings
& anticipation
WELCOME the Rev. Douglas Morgan Strong,
General Assembly Planning Committee
NATIVE AMERICAN ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We acknowledge the First Nations of Massachusetts who
occupied these lands for countless generations before the
arrival of Europeans. Realizing that we are on Indian land
requires us to accept responsibility for a painful history
and present injustice. It helps us to achieve respect for
the multifaceted cultures and spiritual perspectives of
North America's Indigenous Peoples. This we do for ourselves,
for future generations and for the earth.

The Unitarian High School Choir:
The Tour Choir of the Unitarian College in Kolozsvár,
Transylvania, Romania. The College was founded in 1557. It
is called a "college," but in fact is a high school
for girls and boys, grades 9-12. It was closed by the Communist
government in 1948, and reopened in 1993. The group is in
the US, doing 15 concerts in UU churches; from the Washington,
DC, area to Boston, during the month of June 2003. There are
three purposes for the visit: [1] to help raise money for
the Unitarian Center for Students and Pilgrims in Kolozsvár;
[2] to strengthen the bonds among American UUs and our friends
and partners in Transylvania; [3] to help celebrate the 10th
anniversary of the UU Partner Church Council.
The Tour Choir will perform two concerts during General Assembly:
Friday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m., both at Boston's
1st and 2nd Church, 66 Marlborough Street, walking distance
from GA. Tickets are available at the Partner Church Council
booth or the door.
