Youth Caucus Business Meeting III

Young Religious UUs

Speaker(s): Laura Douglas, Shea Schachameyer

Before Laura Douglas began the business of the meeting, the Unitarian Universalist Association election results were announced. Most of the youth were very happy with the results.

Rev. Lindi Ramsden, Chair of the Nominating Committee, spoke about UUA committees and which ones would be better for youth. She also spoke about the two ways for youth to get on committees: running via nomination and being appointed by the Board of Trustees.

The next order of business for the youth was to choose their Working Action Issue for the next two years. After brainstorming and a preliminary poll, it seemed to come down to Prison Reform and Education Reform. This led to a fairly heated debate over the merits of each, but since there were fewer supporters of Education Reform and no one planned on blocking consensus either way, the supporters of Education Reform stepped aside and allowed the selection of Prison Reform as the WAI for the next two years.
