A UU Christian Church in 10 Easy Steps Magi Network |
||||||
Step One: Dream
Dream of the church would inspire you. Ask yourself what that church would be like.
Step Two: Communicate
Talk to the people that are essential to the creation of a new congregation: Denominational and District officials, representatives of the UU Christian movement, and people you know who might be interested in Christian Unitarian Universalism.
Step Three: Scheme
Develop an overall sense or statement of mission with people who are inspired by your dream. Answer the all-important question: "Why would your new congregation serve the community better than the churches that are already there?"
Step Four: Divine
In reflection and prayer, find the answer to the question: "What does God want me to do?"
Step Five: Gather
Compile a comprehensive mailing list based on UU church visitor lists and other sources.
Step Six: Choose
Decide on which model of congregational development your new congregation will follow. Define what is to happen after the initial public meeting.
Step Seven: Launch!!!
At an initial public meeting, present your Good News in a way the community has never heard before.
Step Eight: Do
Whatever your next step is -- worship, group discussions, community-building events -- do them immediately following the initial public meeting, while there is interest.
Step Nine: Build
Keep moving forward, taking advantage of the momentum from the initial public meeting and your first steps.
Step Ten: Join
Charter with the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations, engage in the activities of your District, interact with other UU congregations, and join with other Christian churches in your community toward the betterment of all. Witness the power and beauty of UU Christianity within Unitarian Universalism, to the greater community where you live, and to the wider "Body of Christ" of which you are a member.
