District Support for
Campus and Young Adult Ministry Prairie Star District | ||||||
Rev. Jill Terwilliger, Consultant for Young Adult Programming in the Prairie Star District talked about ways services are delivered to young adults in our denomination.
Some districts have hired part-time consultants. Others wrap young adult programs into the duties of their lifespan consultants. Joseph Priestly district used "Giving to Grow" funds to hire a minister for full-time campus ministry. Terwilliger and the Young Adult leaders she consulted find that districts need someone to spend time regularly on Young Adult issues. To stay viable, Young Adult groups need support. They need people to help them get organized, to keep track of membership, to develop connections, and to oversee event planning.
Everyone between the ages of 18 and 35 is classified as a young adult. They are college students, young marrieds, parents, singles, and more. Group members may pass through several significant life events during this period. They are very transient. Those who were raised Unitarian Universalists want programs that are significantly different from the ones that newer members desire.
