Dear Religious Leader:

The role of people of faith and goodwill in the civic debate in the 2000 election cycle is crucial to the future of our nation. This is why The Interfaith Alliance Foundation created Call To a Faithful Decision Weekend. I ask you as a religious leader to join us the weekend of October 27-29 in promoting civic participation as an obligation of faith, during Call To a Faithful Decision Weekend.

The Interfaith Alliance is a faith-based organization made up of over 50 different religious traditions with over 100,000 members committed to promoting the positive and healing role of religion in our society. We actively oppose the manipulation of religion for political goals. In this election year, we encourage people of faith and goodwill to register, educate themselves, mobilize their communities and vote their conscience on November 7.

Call To a Faithful Decision Weekend highlights the call to civic participation that has roots deep in all of our nauon's diverse faith traditions. People of faith share common obligations to address issues of civility, human dignity, poverty, and equality. One of the most basic ways to meet these obligations is by learnign about important issues, educating those around us, and voting in a thoughtful, faithful manner.

Religious leaders have the moral authority to address these issues in their congregations. In 1998, on the weekend before Election Day in Call To a Faithful Decision Weekend, over 1,000 religious leaders in all fifty states joined in promoting this message.

This year, we are asking religious leaders to dedicate the weekend of October 27-29 to addressing this important issue.

As a respected religious leader, I would like to ask you to support our efforts by filling out the form on the other side of this letter and committing to devote this weekend to the message of civic participation. I would also ask you to spread the word about this weekend to other religious leaders. If you agree to participate in Call To a Faithful Decision Weekend, you will receive a Worship Leaders Guide with sermons, scripture and prayers from different faith traditions on this subject in early September. You can also reply online at http://interfaithalliance.org/Initiatives/vote.htm

Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please contact our Religious Outreach Coordinator, Sandhya Jha, at 202-639-6370.

Sincerely,
/s/
